Julie on Dr. Phil Show

I remember the first time I was on the show… what an experience! I was invited (with my husband, Jim and my Mom as my guests) to appear with a returning couple. The Dr. Phil show provided beautiful accommodations, a limo to Paramount Studios, and a front row seat at the taping. Talk about feeling like a celebrity! The show provides make-up, hair and wardrobe consultation and assistance, too, for anyone who will be on camera. Unfortunately, the make up guy on the first show was a little liberal with the black eye make-up, so when I came back to the dressing room to show my husband my “TV look” and ask him what he thought, he said, “You look like Morticia!” (of the Addam’s Family). I was not amused!
The staff was very nice, and the morning was full of new experiences. Being in a live taping with the audience had an interesting momentum and high level of excitement as the show began – then Dr. Phil came out, the lights came up and the cameras turned on. Happily for me, sitting where I was, the cameras were actually pretty far away from me. I was sitting inches from the stage itself with my focus on the big chair and the big guy, so I never knew which cameras were beaming our little chat to 10 million people. (That’s a good thing, because it’s just a tiny little nerve-racking to think about all those people watching at once, PLUS sitting in front of the real, live Dr. Phil the same time.) I remember how hot the lights were, and how much AC they had to blast on the stage to keep us all from melting.
It was surprising how quickly all the excitement was over, and the crew was on to another audience, another story and another taping. I felt like I got the royal treatment start to finish, and it was great fun. So, when they called the second time, it didn’t take long to say “SURE”!
